too much recycling

Jaxson, the middle child, has really taken recycling to the extreme! Like all of us Jaxson has his favorites: favorite socks, favorite shoes, favorite pants etc. Well, lately I've been noticing Jaxson coming out of his bedroom in the morning, ready for school, with clothes on from the day before. And, as the maid of laundry I guarantee you the Davis' don't have that kindof turn around with dirty clothes! Tired of the day after day "Go change your pants, Jaxson. You wore those yesterday." I decided I would come up with a small threat of "basketball on Saturdays won't be happening, if I continuously have to monitor you wearing dirty clothes". And, to this he confessed with a smirk ..." Why do you notice, now? In first grade I wore the same pants for one whole week, laugh, laugh!" I thought, you've got to be kidding me, as I replied , "You did what???" With this confession I decided Jaxson is doing way too much recycling!

KIDS...5 Alive!

Kids, Kids, Kids...in reference to little young goats. I decided to post about the new kids on the Davis Farm. The boys beg their dad every spring to "go get goats" and eventually we all go in search of a young billy(s) who needs adopted. The boys choose their own kid and it becomes their baby to bottle feed. Somehow the kids also become the prized pets of all animals roaming these acres??? The boys love to play with them...they run with them, from them, jump on hay bales with them, lead them, play dodge ball against them, ride them, rope them & tie them. Poor things!
"Five Alive" is what Dawson shouts every morning & afternoon when he returns too see happy, jumping, eager to eat kids. You see, one morning last year we returned to the barn to find...um....5 dead! Not sick!-Board stiff dead! Oh.. the tears that were shed......
So this year we welcome Chuck, Snowflake, Happy & Jr. along with Bonnie to the Davis Farm.
And so far.....5 Alive!

bugs....

Sick bugs that is....those warmer temps we all enjoyed also infested the Davis' with sick bugs. It's always puzzled me how you can go to bed feeling fine and wake up sick? It's like those nasty creatures wait until you're dog tired & in need of rest before they say..."nah, nah no sleepin' tonight"! Errrrr......I like sleep!
Now my next question: When do you go to the doctor? You see, Dexter went to bed last night feeling mostly fine...ok, a slight watery runny nose and mild sore throat...but I thought nice "spring like" weather must mean early spring allergies. Well...the seal like cough began, a few crackles on the exhale, fever, headache, severe sore throat, tiredness & hoarse voice. So now I sit here wondering....doctor or no doctor? And, in a family of 5 with 3 kids....Who's next?

Mom's helper

The scenario was that I was washing Dawson's bedding Monday along with his prize "puppy blanket". Knowing that I'm easily side-tracked Dawson decided to help with the laundry and switch it out for me...what a helper! This also guaranteed a warm, cozy & fresh puppy blanket for later in the day & at bedtime. Aware this would be quite a process for him, I decided to see how he was getting along, knowing normally the step stool from the bathroom is carried to the laundry room. Well, to my surprise, their was no step stool. I found Dawson IN THE WASHING MACHINE!! As funny as I thought the situation was, taking the time to run for the camera, I have yet to mention it to his father. I fear the drum will soon be off balance, repairs needed and Dan will be wondering just how many pair of jeans, towels etc. I tried, once again, to stuff into "a" load of laundry? Who can resist the face of Mom's proud helper? JOB WELL DONE!

better wet days

After the wonderful spring weather, Friday, the Davis' tend to be a little moody about now residing in an Iowa swamp-"man is it soggy and muddy"! We've a had quite a bit of rain with cooler temps..something we wish we had some control over. Thank goodness it wasn't snow, we would be buried!
Wanting to add to the Davis Herd blog I thought I'd plug in this photo, taken this past summer at Lake Rathbun. It seems fitting to call this blog entry "better wet days".

Slumdog Millionaire

Thanks to our very dear babysitter Dan & I got to have a movie date this past Saturday night. Although we do occasionally take the boys to a movie, it's always a nice treat to see something that isn't animated.
Okay...so...if the post title threw you for a loop you didn't watch the Academy Awards this year. Slumdog Millionaire is a movie which won multiple academy's with basically no name actresses or actors. I didn't watch the Academy's either, but Dan did. The reason they won: good movie! NO, GREAT movie! You'll be on the edge of your seat wondering what's to come next as your heart aches with pain. It's a film I highly recommend, one that will take days to leave my head and will never be forgotten. I have no desire to travel to India and have no idea how true to life the story is...I fear it's a fairly accurate portrayal. Thank GOD I'm American!
