last day

Here we are at the last day of the 08-09 school year, what a relief for it to finally arrive! We are all excited to enjoy the nice weather with many, many, many outdoor activities. No worries about completed homework, prompt suppers, showers and bedtime.
Woo-hoo!
But, as the kids make their last bus ride to town for this year, I feel a slight twinge of sadness for another year gone.....these years are flying!!!! I have to revert my thoughts and stay focused on the exciting new doors opening...Dexter to middle school, Dawson to kindergarten. And, when I look at these endeavors through the eyes of my child it's easier to smile and get caught up in their feelings of eagerness for new experiences!
Life is good!

farm day

Friday Dawson got to share the farm with all of his preschool buddies. Actually, Dan, Dawson & I got to share the Davis farm with all the preschool kids. The first group came on Monday, the second group on Friday. We rode ponies, chased goats, climbed up to sit in a tractor, used the rope swing in the hay barn to swing like a monkey, & passed around tad poles to hold. After washing our hands, we enjoyed a cold glass of kool-aid with Grandma Belles snickerdoodle cookies. It was a fun 2 hours with alot of smiles, giggles & some serious farm questions! The picture is of the smaller group, Dawson's class, that visited today.

APPROVED!

A new look for the Davis Herd blog. More boyish and approved by the boys. "That's much more cool," said Dex. "Ya got rid of the flowers...."

Spring has sprung

Dan came in for lunch today and headed straight to the basement to pack up the Play Station 2. I guess he feels spring has officially sprung, summer vacation is almost here and the boys childhood days don't need to be wasted away in front of a screen. Problem being..I'm here to handle this after school discovery!
Now, if I could just convince him to do away with the T.V. ?
I often think a home without screens would be GRAND! I know, I know...a little backwards I am:)

A nudge?

A nudge? The nudge method of parenting was described this morning on GMA. I'm thinking this may be a technique I should try? I realize I shouldn't sweat the small stuff..like a messy bedroom but just to have a clear path would be nice:) Here's how the nudge works: Let's say Dexter has Lego's laying all over his bedroom, which he often does. You see, I give him a nudge to clean them up. If the small task doesn't get completed, when he's not around(to avoid confrontation), they get picked up by Mom and locked away in my possession. Then, in order to earn them back, certain chores must be completed or he may buy them back. Sounds simple! Plus, it would eliminate the repeated nagging requests. The "experts" claim it only takes a nudge or 2 to change behaviors...I'll let you know!

smashed fingers

As a mother of 3 boys I always wondered "if" or should I say "when" this day would come? On Saturday, Jaxson mashed his finger in a farm gate while playing with some friends. It did slow him down momentarily but after a little ice and some compassion from others he decided to rejoin his friends. The day was a busy one, spent almost entirely with friends. This busyness, I guess, made the pain bearable...until bedtime! Isn't that the way it goes? Well, after a restless night and some nausea symptoms from the throbbing pain we headed to the ER to confirm what someone had indicated...Jaxson broke the tip of the finger bone off! I learned on a smashed finger that if most of the black and blue bruising is on the underside this probably is an indication of a broken bone. If the finger nail turns black it is likely it's just that; a smashed finger. Who knew...always learning!

Dexter's 1st 5K

Shame on me....NO picture!
Anyway, I wanted to inform all of my loyal blog readers that Dexter and I ran the 5K, Susan B. Komen Race for the Cure this weekend. Actually, we just got home. I'm SOOOOO PROUD of him! Never really tackling any long distance runs before, Dexter ran the 3.1 miles in 9.5 minute miles! I'm not sure what he's more proud of...running the race or beating Mom:) I wish I didn't have to put that in writing, hahaha. It was a fabulous way to kick off Mother's Day weekend. Have I mentioned before I'm so lucky to be his Mom? A Mom, really! I love my job!
Happy Mother's Day to all Mom's!

hurried...

Does anyone else feel like their daily life is one big hurried event? It doesn't matter what I'm doing I ALWAYS feel hurried! It's not that I'm always late..just always in a hurry. Could it be that I'm trying to do too much? NO, that couldn't be-seriously! Perhaps it's poor time management? It starts from the moment I wake up. I hurry to get the kiddos awake, breakfast fed, clothes on, cleaned up and out the door before the bus arrives. Then I'm in a hurry to get about my day...whatever that my be. Always something:) Today specifically I was hurrying to get to the school for my last volunteer day after which I went to the greenhouse and then hurried home, hurried to greet the boys after they returned from school, hurried to plant the garden, and hurried to get back to town for kindergarten roundup. Not to mention still hurrying once we arrived home to finish & check homework, take baths and get to bed. Maybe I require too much sleep? Should I wake up earlier? Stay up later? Noooo that makes me grouchy! Wait, I am grouchy! Reminds me of an ole' Alabama song....I'm in a hurry to get things done....I rush and rush until life's no fun....all I really got to do is live and die.....I'm in a hurry and don't know why?

Thank you, Spring!

Well...what can I say? The beautiful weather has taken me out of the house (away from the computer) and into the great outdoors. The Davis' have been busy hunting mushrooms, riding horses, roping, fishing, mowing, mulching, go-karting, cycling and............

paddle boating. The boat was a Christmas gift from Grandpa Roger & Rachel. Dan & I were so thankful for a few days of calm, warm spring weather to finally give into the boys' relentless pleas of "can we get the paddle boat out today?" It's been a long 4 months! "Thank you for finally arriving, Spring".
